DeTomaso Appearance

There's a Pantera at the beginning of the race, parked, probably not even idling. The movie shows a Ferrari guy listening to his engine with a stethoscope. I think the Pantera guy has ear plugs.
 
Also, there is a silver Pantera among the waiting contestants just before the start, and it is one of the cars shown punching their timecards and launching over a speed bump (?). It's a brief Pantera moment.

Trivia

The father and son team of Hoppy Hopkins and Danny Hopkins competed in the real Cannonball Run race in 1972 in a DeTomaso Pantera and finished 4th overall. They completed the 2,863 mile journey in 38:02 hours.

And, Brock Yates' book, "Cannonball: Worlds Greatest Outlaw Roadrace", mentions a Pantera or two in the early years.
